The display member has an attachment piece joined to one or more prongs, and the base member is releasably secured to it. Ott et al. (2009) studied the relationship between navel jewelry and spine bone density in adolescents and young women. The researchers measured lumbar spine bone mineral density in 727 subjects aged 14-30 years. The researchers concluded that navel jewelry could increase the bone density of the underlying vertebra.

Conclusion

Some forms of navel jewelry could have medical benefits such as increasing bone density.
